Hot Deployment - What Works, What Doesn't, What's Promising

Hot Deployment was one of the coolest feature of 11.1.2.0.0 release. Look like there are lot of confusion centered around on this topic. This post is meant for clarifying the offerings on Hot Deployment available with JDeveloper 11.1.2.0.0 release Hot Deployment - What Works and What's Promising? Please see 36.4 Reloading Oracle ADF Metadata in Integrated WebLogic Server in Fusion Developers Guide. Below is the excerpt for your quick reference .... JDeveloper support for hot reloading of Oracle ADF metadata is an alternative to quitting the running application, editing your project's XML definition files, redeploying, and rerunning the application in Integrated WebLogic Server to view the latest changes. Changes that you make to the Fusion web application projects will not be picked up automatically by an application that you have deployed to Integrated WebLogic Server. You can, however, reload metadata from the data model project and user interface project any time you ...

Compiling large projects from JDeveloper

Image
If you are running in to out of memory error while compiling huge projects from JDeveloper, this tips is for you. JDeveloper will let you to compile the project outside of JDeveloper process where the compiler can enjoy more heap size(which doesn't need to be shared with JDeveloper). To do this select the Project, right click-> Project Properties and select Out of Process option. Optionally you can modify the default heap size as well. Out-of-process compilations are useful for very large projects; an in-process compilation could run out of memory because it shares the memory space with the whole JDeveloper IDE.

What you may need to know about <events> definitions in PageDef file

I'm not sure how many of you have noticed the 'generated' PageDef file entries when you define a Contextual Event using the editor(PS2 release). If you define Contextual Event for a command button, the generated PageDef entries may look like as shown below <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <pageDefinition xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adfm/uimodel" version="11.1.1.56.60" id="untitled8PageDef" Package="view.pageDefs"> <parameters/> <executables> <variableIterator id="variables"/> </executables> <bindings> <eventBinding id="eventBinding" Listener="javax.faces.event.ActionListener"> <events xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adfm/contextualEvent"> <event name="SampleEvent" customPayLoad="Test"/> </events>...

Defining multiple eventBindings

Image
While working on specific use case, came across scenario where I had to define separate Contextual Events for different button's on a page. Story in nutshell, a page is having two command buttons, each one should trigger Contextual Event with different payloads. Unfortunately 'Contextual Event' editor was not letting me to generate two event bindings. [Please note that this issue is rectified in latest internal builds, hopefully next public release may have this fix] So I went ahead and created this binding manually. I'm just sharing the manual binding tat I created here. I hope this may help you if you face similar issues during development. JSF tags may look like as shown below <af:commandButton text="commandButton 1" id="cb1" actionListener="#{bindings. eventBinding1 .listener.processAction}"/> <af:commandButton text="commandButton 2" id="cb2" actionListener="#{bindings. eventBinding2 .listener...

ADF Business Components With MySQL

Image
Most of the application built on Oracle ADF uses Oracle RDBMS as Database. The driving factor here is to leverage the feature richness of Oracle DB. Does it mean ADF is tightly coupled with Oracle DB? Answer is NO, ADF can be well integrated with other databases as well. Small to medium size applications can live even with some light weight databases and they may not require the sophisticated features provided by Oracle DB. MySQL appears to be more popular among the community now a days. There are quite a lot articles on using ADF with MySQL. But it seems that most of them are outdated or rather ADF improves at lightening speed. This article can be considered as an extension of How To Use ADF Business Components with MySQL OK, had enough theory ,now into action. Setup the basic infrastructure JDeveloper discussed in this article is based on version 11.1.1.1.0 and MySQL is 5.x or higher. Apparently, JDeveloper is not packaged with JDBC driver library for MySQL. So let us...
